Blinn College District encourages eligible students to apply for Summer semester Perkins Grant funds

Online application for textbook assistance is open through 10 a.m. Monday, April 19

The Blinn College District is encouraging eligible Applied Sciences majors taking Summer 2021 courses to apply for funds made available through the Carl D. Perkins Basic Grant.

The Perkins Grant is a federally funded program that provides community colleges with resources to enhance and develop programs that serve faculty, staff and students in career and technical education departments. Students enrolled in Blinn’s Applied Business, Art and Visual Communication, Associate Degree Nursing, Biotechnology Laboratory Sciences, Child Development, Criminal Justice, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Services, Fire Science, Health Information Technology, Information Technology, Legal Assistant, Office Administration, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Real Estate, Surgical Technology, Trades and Applied Technology, Veterinary Technology, Vocational Nursing, and Welding Technology programs may be eligible.

Perkins funds can be applied toward textbooks. The online application at www.blinn.edu/perkins-grant/Perkins-Assistance-Application.html opened at 10 a.m. today and closes at 10 a.m. Monday, April 19. Students must complete the Perkins assistance application form during the application dates to be eligible for consideration.

Financial assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis for enrolled students. To be eligible, students must:

  • be an Applied Sciences or Pre-Applied Sciences major,
  • be registered for at least three hours for the Summer 2021 semester,
  • be enrolled in at least one Applied Sciences degree or certificate plan course (academic or technical),
  • have a minimum 2.5 grade-point average,
  • have a valid, current Blinn student email address, and
  • fit into one of nine special population categories listed at:

Registration for Blinn’s May Minimester, Summer, and Fall terms is open for all students. Registration for the May Minimester is available through Sunday, May 16, and classes run Monday, May 16, through final exams on Wednesday, June 2.

Students can enroll in the Summer I semester through Sunday, June 6, and classes will begin Monday, June 7. Registration for the Summer II semester is available through Sunday, July 11, and classes begin Monday, July 12.

Fall semester registration is open through Sunday, Aug. 29, and classes begin Monday, Aug. 30.

Prospective students can apply to Blinn via the ApplyTexas.org application. Once admitted, they can register for classes at https://my.blinn.edu. Blinn recommends that all students speak to an academic advisor prior to registering for classes. Students can chat online with a Blinn admissions specialist between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at www.blinn.edu/admissions, and can call Enrollment Services at 979-830-4800.
